iWeb Quick Tips & Tricks

What iWeb
Can & Can't Do.

iWeb is a great app for making simple to sometimes even intermediate websites but as always there's limitations...

Watch Out If You
Edit Your HTML Files!

You will lose .mac features such as comments and statistics. There are workarounds to this problem that can be found on iWebFAQ.com so don't stress out over it too much.
iWeb Site Of The Month:

Here is where a featured iWeb site will be listed every month. Sites are chosen as featured because of their individuality and creativity as well as for their attempts in making their sites look like they're not created with iWeb. Sites are chosen from the list of iWeb-created sites listed on iWebFAQ.com/iwebsites so make sure your site is listed if you want to be considered a feature on iWebFAQ.com. The site of the month for January 2009 is StopSuctionEntrapment.com

iWeb saves all its project information for a site on a file named Domain.sites that is stored by default in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb Folder. You can move this file to a different location and double-click on it to make iWeb open your Domain.sites file from this new location.  Click Here for more information about your Domain File and how iWeb determines its default location.

For example you can move your Domain file to an iPod or external HD that you carry with you.  You can edit your website from any Macintosh computer that has iWeb installed on it as long as you have your Domain file with you.  You can keep an updated copy on your server as a file and have it available as a downloadable file you can not work on your Domain file directly from your server (you have to download it as a file first before you can open it) the Domain file will still be available.

You can merge all of your Domain files into one file by using iWebsites although we use the practice of having multiple Domain files(one for each page) located in folders with the name for the page the same name as the folder.  It just makes it easier for our advanced Publishing methods to have our pages organized this way.  Of course how you personally manage your sites and your Publishing/Design requirements have a direct impact on your on your Domain file management.
