Mamata Banerjee has denied further reduction in petrol and diesel prices in West Bengal

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the BJP government of “bulldozing the federal structure of the country”, accusing the Center of using central investigative agencies to harass the state government.

“The BJP regime was worse than Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin or Benito Mussolini,” she told a news conference in Kolkata.

“The BJP-led central government is interfering in the affairs of the state using the central agencies. It is bulldozing the federal structure of the country. The Tughlaq regime is in force, ”he said.

He emphasized the need to give full “autonomy” to the central government in order to save democracy.

“Companies must be given autonomy and allowed to operate impartially without any political interference,” he said in an apparent reference to a recent CBI raid on the residence of RJD national president and former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Reacting to the recent reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel by the central government and the Rs 200 subsidy on cooking gas for the beneficiaries of the Ujjwala scheme, Mamata said, “They do it before any election. Only a small portion of the BPL division is covered by the Ujjwala scheme. How can poor people buy household gas for 800 rupees?

After complaining that the Centre’s revenue collection from excise duty was huge, he said his government would not be able to reduce state tariffs.
