Congress on Friday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on building infrastructure for its military in Ladakh, saying he should speak openly about his “Chinese occupation” and forget his “fake image”.
The group was responding to reports that China was building a second bridge over Pangong So Lake in eastern Ladakh.
People familiar with Chinese construction said on Wednesday that the new bridge was being built in an area 20 kilometers from the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Expressing concern over the issue, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said the foreign ministry should clarify whether China had “occupied” Indian territory.
“This is a very serious matter of concern for each of us and we call on the Prime Minister to forget his own image, to think of the country, to think of the brave army who brave the weather and all the adversity of the enemy.” He is defending our borders with heroism, ”he told reporters.
“Regarding the words used by the foreign ministry on Thursday, we want immediate clarification from the Indian government that the area is under Chinese occupation,” he added.
The congressional leader said that China had provided infrastructural support to the PLA to enable it to bring artillery support through the bridges, and that the special bridge, which was under construction, was a wider bridge than the first.
Khera further complained that without speaking out against China, “we are frustrated with our own armed forces and shocked that the foreign ministry is devaluing the defense ministry.”
He said that China was violating the ceasefire agreement under which India had given up the vantage points under our position and because of our brave army we got those advantage points under our position.
“I don’t know what their obligation is, although it seems that every ministry in this government has a one-point agenda, to protect and promote the image of the prime minister, whatever it is, it is fake,” Khera alleged.
